MGM City Center in Las Vegas is one of the largest private development in American history. LTL Architects were challenged to rethink the buffet  by improving the dining experience while maintaining the performance standards.

The ceiling has an integrating lighting system that reinforce designated functional areas. The buffet space is animated and illuminated by groups of circular lights from the tubes in the gaps above the circulation aisles. The lights are registered as ovals where the fabric surface drops down to section. The lighting design was made by Lumen Architecture.

Arthouse project is a renovation of an existing contemporary art space. LTL Architects were commissioned to design the space and for the lighting part they called Lumen Architecture.

The south and the east walls of the building are glowing from the light of the 177 LED-lit glass blocks. Designers were interested in keeping the history of the building alive. They added a second floor, a new facade and storefront windows. On the roof, the architects created a place for open-air performances.

Bloomberg Tower is a glass skyscraper on the East Side of Midtown Manhattan New York City. The most notable part of the building is the crown tower which glows white in the dark and an oval shaped public plaza between the two buildings. The place is illuminated with colored lighting ans is especially stunning at night.

The offices, residential and retail components are differentiated through distinctive lighting. Interior lighting and layers of architectural and theatrical exterior lighting are a creation of Cline Bettridge Brensten Lighting Design.

Claremont University Consortium was renovated by LTL Architects and Lumen Architecture. They wanted to achieve a distribution of light where  natural light played an important part.

The architects installed solar tubes on the roof that are connected to a sensor system. The sensor detects light levels and responds by phasing light in and out from the circular fluorescent discs. Like this, they activated the space using LEDs.

For the interior the architects used different sculptures and screens. Near the entrance is a green LED light sculpture made by Jason Krugman and somewhere inside there is also a screen embedded with vertical LED lights. The light runs past a window that allow more light to penetrate.

Amplify is a project made by Fuseproject in collaboration with Swarovski. It is actually a series of paper chandeliers. It is made off crystal and low-energy LED light, both enveloped in paper shade.

Designers created an amazing chandelier from simple and minimum amount of materials. Usually a chandelier is made from a lot of crystals. Their challenge was to create the same effect by using a single crystal. 1 crystal, 1 low energy LED light and a faced paper shade. This is how they created Amplify.

Philippe Malouin, created a unique collection using brass dowels, arranged in systematic, repetitive, geometric patterns. Each piece is paired with concrete slabbed surfaces contrasting the warmth of the brass.

With Svetko lamp, the brass, grid forms allow light to be scattered through the openings. The lamp is part of a project named Gridlock, and it was shown at Next Level Galerie Paris in January 2012.

Fractal LED it’s a chandelier that includes more than one thousand light tubes. This piece of art is a part of a bigger project made by designer and sculptor, Arik Levy. His work was inspired by natural forms in absent nature.

The chandelier, also named Fractal Cloud, is an enormous hexagonal ring of light made off fluorescent lights, corian, stainless steel wire, and electronics.

Positioned next to Waterloo Bridge and designed for London Design Festival 2008, Portrait by Fredrikson Stallard, imitates a plank of wood. Actually, the installation is made from corten steel and has been magnified and transformed using a combination of steel and light to recreate the familiar grain structure of wood.

In daylight the steel sections, represent the light wood grain laid down by the free in summer. By night, the spaces in between were illuminated in Veuve Clicqout and represent the dark wood grain laid down in winter.

Bourrasque is a public light installation from a hotel in Lyon, France  for the city’s Festival of Lights. The light installation is made out of pieces of paper, and has been created by London designer Paul Cocksedge. It’s a installation that represents 200 A3 illuminated sheet randomly hovering over the courtyard, in the breeze.

The sheets were made from an electrically conductive material that lights up when a current passes through it. Every sheet was moulded into shape by hand.

Cloud is a five meter long digital sculpture whose surface is covered with flip-dots that animate the entire skin of the sculpture. It is located in Terminal 5 in the atrium hall that leads to the British Airways First Class Lounges.

The project took 8 months in development, production and installation and it is made by Troika. Cloud is one of the best known work from Troika, representing a kinetic sculpture, a mechanical illustration af a digital. There is a nice video about the project Cloud, by Troika.
